The Tears of Nero — Tonight on the Write Stuff

nero.jpgFive strangers. One madman.

Edward, Henry, Franklin, Sadie, and Kelly are complete strangers. On the surface, none of them have any connection to one another, yet they all wake up on an island with no memory of how they arrived there. Their only clue is a note found inside a bottle buried in the sand:

Dear lambs, I think God is mad at us. If you don’t believe it, just look at your own lives for proof. You have all been punished in some way or another. That is why you are valuable to me. You are here to help me understand why bad things happen to good people. – Nero

Much to their horror, they discover their captor is modeling himself after the crazed Roman Emperor, and that he has every intention of killing them off one by one if they don’t learn their true purpose for being on the island. To discover what it is Nero wants from them, the group must face their tragic memories, struggle with their faith, and unearth what links them all together.

Why does God allow bad things to happen to good people?
Come to the island and find out…

Tonight on the Show — Write Stuff Prayercast

prayerThe idea for this prayercast has been in my mind for a while. When it first popped up in my brain, I shooed it away, thinking it was just an errant thought. Over time, the idea began to solidify but I was still unsure. After all, I wanted to be certain it was something the Lord was leading me to do instead of a nice idea. Two weeks ago, at choir rehearsal, we had an impromptu intercessory prayer for one of our choir members going through. There are no words to describe what is it like to be aware of the Spirit in the room. Here, I knew the idea for this prayercast was definitely of the Lord and that He wanted me to do this.

Prayer is the order of the day. It’s as simple as that. if there was ever a time the Body of Christ needed to come together & pray, it’s now. For the church, for our families, for our countries.. The Bible verse from 2 Chronicles 7:14 says, “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.” Often this has been taken out of context to be used as sort of a ‘bell call’ to God to give us what we want. But this verse is calling us to humbleness, repentance, & dependence on the Lord.

For this edition of the Write Stuff, we will be taking prayer requests. Although my show focuses on authors, we’re not going to hang up the phone if you want prayer. Tonight on the Write Stuff — Clear and Present Danger with Melinda Michelle

The enemy is right in front our faces but we can’t see him. He taunts us from every side, through family and friends, work and life situations but we tend to ignore his presence. We make light of his cunning. We don’t think we have to be concerned about him.

Yet, the Enemy is a definite clear and present danger.

In the battle of spiritual warfare, we need to be conscious of who we are in the battle, what we are, who our commander is, and be aware of the tactics that are used against us every day.

The Parker J Cole Show — Double Agents in the Pews

We see it in spy movies all the time — the gut-wrenching twist when the best friend, close relative or family member turns out to be the double agent the hero was looking for. The shock, the pain, the horror rifles through our hero as the one he or she loved has turned out to be the enemy.

But what if there are double agents right next to us in the pews? Every Sunday, we sit next to them, break bread with them, sing praises and all the while, they’re working for the Enemy.

In the spy movies, the hero is aware there may be a double agent within the organization. He watches diligently, searching for the clues, assessing his team members, his leader trying to determine who could it be. Yet in our churches, we’re not as diligent. When the double agent enters it’s often because we allowed the church doors open to all without using discernment to see if this so called brother and sister in Christ is in fact who they say they are.

Jesus warned us of this some time ago. Matthew 7:15 “Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.” However one has to wonder if the Church has forgotten this. When strange doctrines, teachings, and liberties come into the church that seek to change the nature of God, revision the work of Christ, and other heinous things, we need to understand there are double agents in the Church.

How did they get there? That’s what we’re going to talk about today on the show with Pastor George McVey. You can join in the conversation by calling 646-595-2083, press 1 to be live on air. Or, you can download the WLUV Radio mobile app. Tune in!

When Heaven, Hell, and Man Battle for the Soul

1 Peter 5:8

“Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whohe may devour”

Hollywood tends to bombard us with images of Satan. No really, it does. Several actors have portrayed the Devil in several ways. Most notably: Elizabeth Hurley in Bedazzled, Al Pacino in The Devil’s Advocate, Robert Hughes in the Twilight Zone episode, The Howling Man and many others. Hollywood, for some reason, loves to have human actors play as the Devil.

At the same time, the gilded pool of celebrities also has had actresses and actors play God, angels, Jesus or hybrids of some kind — demigods and the like.

Often the movies are portrayed in such a way that Satan can be seen as misunderstood or ‘not quite so bad’ as depicted in the movie with Nicholas Cage called Drive Angry (which in my opinion was awful but if you liked it, more power to you). There’s a scene where the Accountant says something to the effect of (and I paraphrase) “He [The Devil] isn’t a monster” or something like that. Honestly, the movie didn’t leave that much of an impact on me.

But when it comes to spiritual warfare, we are not talking about a mischievous child playing pranks. We are not referring to a misunderstood literary character. We are talking about a being who sole mission is to distract, mislead, and convince you to turn away from God. By any means necessary.

In times past, the Devil had been portrayed with a pitch fork, horns, and red skin. Now, he is portrayed as a suave, calculating but quite irresistible person. There is a contrast between these two images that I find interesting: With the ‘pitch fork’ Satan, the visual image of Satan showed itself distinctive from man. The more modern image is the one that is more frightening…because it isn’t distinctive. As a matter of fact, the image of Satan has morphed into one people seem to readily accept and believe than their belief in God.

And this…is the battle in spiritual warfare…when the enemy is so subtle, so cunning, you don’t even know he’s the enemy.

In my opinion, this is the problem. When Heaven, Hell, and Man battle for the Soul we need to know who is the enemy, who is the soldier, and who is the commander.

With me to talk about this is Frank Lattimore, author of the debut novel ‘Freedom Fight’ as we go into spiritual warfare.
