Richard Rohr and the Enneagram Secret — The Parker J Cole Show

Ennegram

Many of us attend church to learn about God, to learn about ourselves, and to connect with God and others. Along with that is a general belief that the church is spiritually safe. After all, the best source of knowledge about God comes from His self-revelation, which is contained in His inspired, inerrant word: the Bible. We rely on church leaders to interpret the Bible, to carefully teach and guide the church family while keeping false teaching on the other side of the doors. But like a virus on a physical level, false teaching can operate on a spiritual level. A church leader may be introduced to new concept or spiritual tool by what is believed to be a reliable source. It may be embraced as a path to a better understanding of God and self. Even with the best intentions and efforts of spiritual leaders, they become spiritually infected and pass their infection to their flock. In Richard Rohr and the Enneagram Secret, we explore the spiritual infection of those who have embraced Richard Rohr and the Enneagram he has delivered into the church through his disciples.

The claims for the Enneagram are simple. Supposedly it is an ancient tool used by some of the Early Church Fathers. It is claimed to be the “face of God” and each Enneagram number is an individual spiritual path to deeper spiritual understanding and fuller self-awareness. But what if this seemingly harmless tool is in fact one of the largest deceptions perpetrated upon the Christian church in recent history?

Tonight on the Write Stuff — Franklin on Faith: The Definitive Guide to the Religion of the First American by Bill Fortenberry

benfranklinKnown to historians as “the First American,” Benjamin Franklin is without a doubt the most accessible of America’s founding fathers. His writings have inspired millions of Americans, and even now, more than 200 years after his death, his wit and humor still brighten lives all across the world. But what was this great man’s view on faith? Was he really a Deist as so many historians have proposed? Was he a humanist like so many of his French friends? Is there any possibility that he could have been a Christian?

In this unique volume, Bill Fortenberry has collected everything that Franklin wrote about his faith. From Franklin’s admission that he became a Deist at the age of fifteen, to his letter to Ezra Stiles 69 years later, Fortenberry catalogues exactly how Franklin’s religious views progressed throughout his life and gives us a glimpse of a side of Franklin that few Americans have ever seen.

candid

Life isn’t always sunshine and chocolate.

It’s hard.

Being a Christian doesn’t change that.

In Candid Conversations you’ll read real life stories from real Christian women, and how God has used their struggles to either refine their faith or used their faith to help them weather the storm. From struggling with doubts to dealing with the loss of a loved one, these women lay it all out. They aren’t afraid to get real, because they know God can use their struggles to inspire, encourage, and reach others all for His glory.

Heather Hart, founder of the #CandidlyChristian movement, encourages readers to be honest and look for ways they can relate to each story. Then take that mentality into their everyday lives and start having candid conversations with those around them. Because when we share our struggles, when we are real, that’s when we truly point others to Jesus.

So what are you waiting for? It’s time to get Candid.

islandAgent Sherard Parker never expected to get caught.

His first reconnaissance mission with the DEA was supposed to be simple: infiltrate a small South Pacific island and gather intelligence about its involvement in the international drug trade.

But when Parker stumbles upon a hidden airliner reportedly shot down weeks earlier—an act of terrorism that sparked a war—he realizes the island is more than just home to a major drug operation, it’s also part of a conspiracy so evil it could lead to World War III.

After being captured, Parker is forced to abandon his original mission for a far more important one: escape from the island and return to his family.

Can Parker lead an eclectic band of prisoners in a daring life-or-death escape from their tropical prison, or will those in charge of protecting the island prevail, keeping its dark secrets forever?

There is an epidemic going on in the Church today.  Many Christians hold on to offenses and maintain a “me first” attitude. In this last season, we must learn how to have compassion, truly love each other, and become one as the Body of Christ. Anna Aquino’s book seeks to open our eyes, soften our hearts, and move us to extend blessings to one another as we come together in unity. This book will help heal the hearts of people—both in the Church and in the world—who have been hurt by the spirit of Balaam.

You will:
•    Learn that the spirit of Balaam brings division by causing Christians to criticize (curse) each other.
•    Understand how spiritual Amnons violate the Body.
•    Be challenged to examine your ways and humble your heart before God.
•    Be motivated to love your brothers and sisters in the Lord compassionately.
Anna Aquino writes, “We in the church need to wake up, have compassion, and start loving the hell out of each other. The spirit of Balaam is moving through the churches at a rapid pace.  It’s up to us as the Church to stop it.”

Anna’s a nut and I love whenever I have her on the show. To listen to our funny and inspiring talk about marriage booboos we all make, click here to listen: http://tobtr.com/10247627

This book isn’t inspired by whether aliens actually do exist (or can exist). Even if aliens are wholly fictional, the very concept of alien intelligence as seen in science fiction can teach important truths about the nature of the God of the Bible.

Because in some very important ways, the Creator of the universe does not think the way a human being thinks.

Rejoice’s family are part of a group of Christian pacifist colonists, seeking new lives on an intriguing alien planet, free from the discrimination and persecution of Earth. Their new home proves to have not just one, but two potentially hostile, native intelligent alien species.

Rejoice at twelve is the only person who sees the threat that menaces to destroy the colonists’ new home. As a teenager, she shares in the adventure of a voyage of exploration around the planet. As an adult, she’s at the center of a simmering potential war between the alien species, her fellow Christian colonists, and new, warlike colonists from Earth.

A Shattered World is epic science fiction clothed in the lives of ordinary people from a distant place, in the not-so-distant future.

For a US Navy SEAL, life can be many things — challenging, thrilling, rewarding, hazardous, unexpectedly short. Lieutenant James Salvatori knew all this going in, but nothing could have prepared him for his mission to Laos. What started as an anti-terror operation turned into an experience that was quite literally out of this world!

New lands, mythical creatures, powerful magics, immortal tyrants. What’s a guy like Sal to do, except lock and load?

A future terraformed Mars, where civilization crashed back into a Medieval Era. Christian Knights called “riders” patrol the Pilgrim Road from Olympus to New San Diego, on the Chryse Sea. The technological past is known as the “Age of Magic” and only a handful of people understand how the remaining ancient devices really work. Lighter gravity in dense air makes flying dragons and bird riders a reality; alloys of the past make “magic” swords; and masters of ancient knowledge wield wizard-like power.

Nine authors spin tales in this unique story world, one which combines elements of science fiction and high fantasy.

Beauty for Ashes — The Parker J Cole Show

Isaiah 61:3 To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that he might be glorified.

Romans 8:28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

Perhaps these are verses that are familiar to us. Or, maybe they aren’t. When we are surrounded by pain of all kinds, how can we look upon the situation and see anything else but bad?

“Beauty for Ashes” is the inaugural book in The Father’s Daughters Anthology Series. Eight women gather together to show how God transforms wounds for worship, pain for praise, and tragedy for triumph. These real-life experiences show sour lemons turning into sweet delights. It is a testament to how life changes for the better when faith allows God to comfort, heal, and love His daughters. Join me as I talk with the creator of of this anthology as she shares with us the stories of eight women who have joined together to show that, yes indeed, we can obtain beauty from ashes.

Tonight on the Write Stuff — A Love Story: How God Pursued Me and Found Me by Samantha Ryan Chandler

The tale of Samantha Ryan Chandler’s life is evocatively portrayed in her book: A Love Story, How God Pursued Me and Found Me. It tells of a life that is as disturbing and unsettling as it is uplifting and, in the end, gratifying. How “A girl from Nowhere, Louisiana” finds her way from such humble beginnings to live and walk amongst presidents and the supremely rich, only to find her trust and faith betrayed by those that she loved and trusted the most. She would be tested to the point where she began to doubt her own sanity and, at the moment of her greatest desperation and doubt, she was found by God and brought back from the brink of hopeless despair. Blessed with an almost unquenchable optimism and a unique sense of humor, she relates the story of a life that will speak to those who have encountered abuse, unfairness and anguish. Her love for her children and her faith in God carried her through a crucible of fire and in the end, made her a better, stronger person, ready to carry on with a life that is again filled with love, joy and laughter. A Love Story, How God Pursued Me and Found Me will both inspire you and touch your heart.

Samantha Ryan was born in a colorful, town in Louisiana. Convinced that the world had to be bigger than her hometown, she left her familial roots and created a path that took her to cities across the United States and the world. Possessing a natural gift for design and a penchant for history, Samantha channeled those talents into a life full of projects and historical enquiry. In her own words, “being a mom is the greatest job in the world,” Samantha spent the better part of three decades running carpools, cooking hot meals, leading girl scout troops and taking art and fitness classes for and with one or more of her three girls. A series of divine interactions led Samantha to impact a wider range of people than ever before when she co-founded Children’s Cross Connection (now known as Childspring International). Together the two of them brought hundreds of children with life crippling and life threatening ailments and afflictions from developing world countries like Ethiopia, the Philippines, Haiti and others to the United States for donated surgeries.

ABOUT THE BOOK

dirtyshirt

The Boundary Waters Canoe Area is a mystical, wild place of beauty with its crystalline lakes and untouched forests. In the late 80’s and early 90’s my brothers and I went there seeking adventure, restoration, and solitude. Our adventures were numerous, and along the way we discovered that we were more like each other and our long-deceased father than we could ever have imagined. Through fellowship, laughter and the occasional argument, we saw glimpses of him and forged lifelong bonds between us.

In 1991, the BWCA tradition died for nearly twenty years while we pursued careers, marriages and children. Almost twenty years later, we decided it was time to pass the torch on to our children. A new generation of tradition was begun, but before long, tragedy struck and our collective world was turned on end.

So, come along into the thundering rapids, the bug-riddled portages, and the long rides in a vehicle ready for the junk heap. Experience the exhilarating adventure of the Boundary Waters. It will be a trip you will never forget.

Tonight on the Write Stuff ***REBROADCAST*** Godly Women and Mental Illness with Barbara Rupp

***REBROADCAST***

Mental illness and Christianity have been at odds with each other for a number of years. For a long while, it was thought that any sign mental illness or cognitive impairment was a result of demonic possession. Later, those who suffered from these disorders were locked up in an institution away from the embarrassment of the family. Further still, as our medical knowledge grew, our diagnostic abilities have expanded our understanding of how the mind works.  And yet, even today, the topic of mental illness is still a taboo subject.

For Christians who suffer from some type of mental illness or disorder, it may hit a double impact.   For the godly woman who is torn between her faith and her health problem, she may be having a hard time with reconciling the condition of her soul with the condition of her mental health.

Do godly women and mental illness go hand in hand? Are they compatible with each other? Can a woman of faith still suffer from bipolar depression or anxiety attacks? Is her faith dependent on her mental state?

We’ll be talking about this and more with our guest Barbara Rupp, author of The Woman at the Well Bible Study guide. You can call in at 646-595-2083, press 1 to be live on air. Or, you can download the WLUV radio mobile app. Or click on the link here: http://tobtr.com/7910823  Tune in!
