Parker J Cole Show Throwback Thursday — The Biblical Justification for Slavery

This show was a unique experience for me because Lisa Guinther truly had me stumped. I had NO idea what she was going to say and I sorta chewed my nails as I waited. Would I have to hang up on her if she said something out of the wall? Would the phone lines be ringing off the hook? A lot of thoughts went through my mind with this show.

Interestingly enough, Lisa said, “Trust me.”

Trust. A word that many are searching for today. Who do we trust in when EVERYONE seems to break our trust? Yet, in the few years I’ve known Lisa, she hasn’t even given me any reason, NOT to trust her. So, I did.

By the end of this episode, I was struck anew by Lisa’s approach to biblical interpretation. She really lets us know to read the Bible for all its worth.

Enjoy!

If Sinners Be Damned — The Parker J Cole Show

“If sinners be damned, at least let them leap to Hell over our dead bodies. And if they perish, let them perish with our arms wrapped about their knees, imploring them to stay. If Hell must be filled, let it be filled in the teeth of our exertions, and let not one go unwarned and unprayed for.” — Charles Spurgeon

Both non-Christians and Christians both have a problem with the doctrine, the very idea of Hell. We love the all-encompassing grace and love of the Lord Jesus Christ but when it comes to Hell…let’s just say that’s another story. After all, could an all-loving God really sentence people who don’t believe in Him to an eternal leaping chamber of fire, gnashing demons, and unending torture for eternity? Is anyone really WORTHY of such a punishment? Hitler is usually the poster boy of what evil can do. Some may ask is even he THAT bad enough to warrant a one-way pass to eternal damnation? Not to mention the good people who wouldn’t hurt a soul who don’t believe in the God of the Bible. Or the atheists who have good moral lives. What about the Christians who act more hellish than righteous — just because they claim the Lord as their savior, do they get a free “get out of hell card” despite acting more like a ‘sinner’ than a ‘saint’?  Is God really going to send sinners guilty of a finite sin in the temporal world to eternal punishment?

Some of us choose not to believe in a literal hell. Some of us may reject God for the very idea of hell. But, we have to ask ourselves this: if hell is real, then sinners WILL be damned. And if sinners be damned, is there something we can do to prevent it? Join in the conversation with myself and Evan Minton. Call in at 646-668-8485, press 1 to be lilve on air. About The Author

In 1992 Nikola Dimitrov experienced a miraculous conversion, receiving Jesus as his Lord and Savior. Since 1995 he has been a full time minister of the Gospel, serving as pastor, Bible teacher, preacher, and Christian educator. He started his first church in 1994, which is still standing today, and in 1998 he began his traveling ministry. Nikola is currently pastoring several church groups in Bourgas, Bulgaria and is frequently sought out as a speaker around the country. He also serves as a Bible teacher at the Apostolic Kingdom Institute in Stara Zagora, Bulgaria.

As editor-in-chief of Vetil Media Ministry, Nikola has translated and published more than thirty books into Bulgarian, as well as writing some himself. He is passionate for a glorious Church, without spot, wrinkle or any such thing. Nikola’s dynamic preaching pointedly encourages believers to be everything the Lord created them to be. He then encourages his congregations to take responsibility in word and deed toward that end.

As a translator, Nikola has also produced and distributed around the nation nearly 1000 Bulgarian versions of audio and video teachings by famous foreign preachers and teachers.

As part of a charity in Bulgaria, along with other volunteers, Nikola takes care of needy people from the minorities, distributing clothes, food, medicine, and school materials to children.

Nikola is married to Helen, and they have two lovely young-adult daughters, Annie (which means grace) and Mikaela (which means who is like God?). Both are part of Nikola and Helen’s ministry, serving in the area of music.

The Biblical Justification for Slavery — The Parker J Cole Show

Parker J Cole BannerI find myself in a unique position for this episode of the Parker J Cole show — I don’t have a clue what the co-host is going to say. She’s been on the show a few times. Always a wonderful co-host but this time, she’s got me stumped!

So I speculate: could it be that all those people who say the Bible approves of slavery — even encourages it — are right? Should slavery become a legitimate form of life and not looked down on so harshly? Should the President read a formal apology to all those plantation owners and their descendants about being so critical of the institution? Should old and modern abolitionists bow their heads in shame for decrying that slavery is wrong? What will our guest talk about on this episode?

Lisa Guinther is an artist, published illustrator, poet, photographer, preacher, feminist, bible teacher, and philosopher. What is she going to say about the biblical justification for slavery? After all, she graduated from the University of Colorado Boulder magna cum laude — let’s face it: she would know!

Should You Only Read the King James Bible? — The Parker J Cole Show

Parker J Cole Banner

There are a lot of different Bible translations out there but one has to admit the lyrical prose of the King James Bible remains supreme for many different reasons. Part of it is that it is one of the first to be translated in English. Perhaps another is the fact it’s been in our Western culture for so long.

Yet, there are those who proclaim you should only read the King James Bible. Why is that? In the light of the many translations out there, what holds the King James Bible in such high esteem?

Join me for this discussion as I chat with pastor George McVey as we discuss the KJV only theory and more. You can call in at 646-668-8485, press 1 to be live on air. Or, you can download Stitcher on your mobile device. Or click on the link here: http://tobtr.com/s/9541617

The Parker J Cole Show — God Against the Gods

Parker J Cole Banner

Often when we read the Bible, we may get a general idea of what the Bible is talking about. God’s love, mercy, judgement, and many other communicable and incommunicable attributes. Yet, if we delve deeper in the word, there are several times where God proclaims “I am God and there is no other god.” Yet, in today’s world, we have many people who have gods — eastern demi-gods, man-god consciousness, alien gods, gods of theory, and so forth and so on. The thing to remember is that God has been proclaiming and setting the record straight ever since the dawn of man.

Sometimes Christians feel like they have to defend God or come to God’s rescue. However, I would submit to you that God has always actively fought against the ‘gods’ of this world, whether of a spiritual nature or of our imagination.

Join me as I talked with writer and filmaker Brian Godawa as we delve into the whole realm of God against the gods as the Bible depicts it.
