Special Edition of the Write Stuff–Beatitudes and Woes Speculative Fiction Anthology

bawOne day, about several months ago, in a Facebook group not so far away, an author posted this:

… I think it would be cool if someone organized a speculative anthology where each story is based on one of the 9 Beatitudes in Matthew or one of the 4 woes of Luke. 13 authors, each assigned/choosing one of those verses, expressing it in fantastical story form…

That author, CW Briar, had created a firestorm.

Immediately, interest piqued. Christian authors and readers jumped on the bandwagon on this wonderful idea. Of course! Why hadn’t many of us thought of it before? General online excitement ensured as authors clamored for a chance to be one of the ones selected for this project. After all, most of us could recite them forwards and backwards.

But had we ever had a chance to explore them in a deeper context? What better way to do that than through the universal language of story?

Tonight on the Write Stuff — Prodigal Avenger with Tim Moynihan

A Covert Rescue Mission No One Expects to Succeed–Who will survive?

Special operator and “nice Jewish kid from Hawaii,” Jake “Snake” Drecker, is intent on a mission across borders to eliminate a brutal terrorist cell. That they may or may not also be holding an American missionary hostage is unclear.

The intelligence is sketchy, the objectives vague, and the chance of success slim. Jake’s boss and old friend, Lieutenant Colonel Mike “Pancho” Sanchez, wonders at the mysterious motivation behind his best soldier’s decisions–and about an equally mysterious rogue military unit that shows up at the worst moments to insert itself into their operations. That the CIA seems willing to sacrifice both Drecker’s team and the hostage only adds to the mystery, forcing Pancho to dig deep to discover the truth behind the missionary’s past. And time is running out as Drecker drags his team on a quixotic rescue operation into the very belly of the beast–a mission Drecker and Pancho both know they cannot survive unscathed.

I’ve Got to Write — The Parker J Cole Show

writebookI’ve Got To Write! It’s Like Fire Shut Up In My Bones! Personal Growth Study and Journal

Several scriptures implore you as a Christian writer to share the Word of God while on earth.

1. You’ve got to write because you are called to write. According to Jeremiah 1:5, God called you from the beginning of time. He knew you would be a writer when you were in your mother’s womb. God created you to be a writer. Your goal is to distribute His words in foreign lands or scatter abroad.

2. You’ve got to write because it is your spiritual gift. God has given every Christian has a gift. As a Christian writer, your purpose is to write. As God’s ambassador here on earth, you are to use your gift to help in Kingdom building and to bless others.

3. You’ve Got to write to bring God Glory. You are the spokesperson in this dark and depraved world. Your written words have power. Therefore, you must spread His word to those who are so desperately waiting.

I’ve Got To Write! It’s Like Fire Shut Up In My Bones! Spiritual Growth Journal is a study designed with you, the writer, in mind. It invites you on a prayerful journey through the beautiful and transforming word of the Bible while encouraging you to write. Each verse for reflection comes with a writing prompt. While on this writing journey you will spend time in God’s presence. He will reveal amazing treasures to you in His Word – and He will change your heart as a writer.

Tonight on the Write Stuff — Screenwriting for the General Market with Bob Saenz

littlebobandbuddyI believe you would be hard-pressed to not find an author who wouldn’t LOVE to have their book adapted to the big screen. Movie producers and independent filmmakers and even Hollywood, Bollywood, and Nollywood are all looking for fresh content to entertain the masses.

A lot of authors who are Christians toe the line of whether they should write for the general market or not. For screenwriting, this means developing a script that would appeal across the board.

Join me as I chat with Bob Saenz — actor, author, and screenwriter extraordinaire. Bob has been writing professionally since 1990. He started by writing bits for his nighttime radio show on KYCY in San Francisco and later writing for and producing talk radio at KGO/KSFO in San Francisco. That led to his being hired to rewrite and add humor to existing industrial film scripts for commercial production companies in the San Francisco Bay Area.
